My Journey

I am a two time node positive, metastatic breast cancer thriver.

My first first occurrence happened when I was 35 years old in March 2014. At the time I was a single Mama of two toddlers. I was was shocked, I was scared, I had zero to little information on any other treatment methods other than conventional cancer treatments, and quite frankly, I was too scared and too misinformed to consider anything other than what was presented to me by my Oncologist and Nurses.

And so, I began 6 rounds  of Chemotherapy, and 16 rounds of Herceptin (immunotherapy for HER2 +) I had a double mastectomy in October 2014 with a lymph node dissection (removal) of 12 lymph nodes, and immediate reconstructive surgery. My pathology after surgery had clear margins, and negative lymph nodes, and so, I was pronounced "Cancer free".

Well Hold up.... I no longer believe in this "Cancer free" label. It's false advertising.

In June 2024, at a routine family Dr. visit, I mentioned my left armpit has been bugging me (for years) but I was so used to it, I ignored it. I chalked it up to lymph node removal. However, I knew better, it was the same feeling I had the first time, it was my lymph node screaming at me again. Once again, He thought I should have an ultrasound/Biopsy. Well guess what, it was again positive for breast cancer. But how could it have travelled to my lymph node without being a lump in my breast first I wondered?? 2 weeks later, I felt a lump at the bottom of my left implant, ultrasound and biopsy followed and not shockingly, it was a malignant tumour. It had been hiding under my implant...

This time around, after becoming a little older, and a little wiser, I have now chosen to do a "blend" of non- conventional/holistic treatment and conventional treatment.

Completely opting out of doing Chemotherapy again (chemotherapy is hell) and not wanting to do radiation ("radiotherapy") either. I did opt to have surgery Sept 4, 2024. Which was another "mastectomy" which included the tumour (which was hiding under my implant, both breast implant(s) being removed, and another lymph node dissection of 11 more lymph nodes, leaving me with roughly 2 remaining lymph nodes in my left axilla (armpit).

I thought I was in the clear, however in February 2025, I felt a small lump in my scar tissue. After an ultrasound and biopsy of the lump, and a suspect looking lymph node, it was discovered to be ANOTHER malignant tumour and thank God, negative lymph node involvement. I believe this was missed in the September surgery. I don't think it was a new tumour, however, I will never know.I had yet another surgery March 27, 2025 to remove it.

I have now decided, because circumstances have changed with this latest tumour appearing, and having my Husband and Children prefer that I do it,  I did change my mind with regards to doing radiation, and completed 15 rounds June 4, 2025. (Radiation is hell) I was not expecting the pain involved and it takes about a. month after your last treatment to start healing from its effects. A Cancer treatment journey can be emotionally and physically exhausting, painful and totally overwhelming. Whether you are considering conventional or non-conventional approaches, or a blend of both, it's essential to take the time to explore your options thoroughly. Each path offers unique benefits that can contribute to your overall well-being.

Having personally navigated both conventional and non-conventional treatments, I can attest to the value that each can bring. Conventional treatments often come with a wealth of research and established protocols, providing a sense of security and reliability. They can be effective in addressing immediate health concerns and are usually backed by medical professionals who can guide you through the process.

On the other hand, non-conventional treatments can offer a refreshing perspective. These methods often focus on holistic healing, addressing not just the symptoms but the underlying causes. They can empower you to take an active role in your health, exploring options that resonate with your personal beliefs and lifestyle. Many individuals find that integrating these approaches into their care can lead to profound changes in their physical and emotional well-being.

Ultimately, the journey is yours to shape. Take the time to research, ask questions, and listen to your intuition. By considering all available options and understanding the benefits of both conventional and non-conventional treatments, you can create a personalized approach that supports your health and well-being.
